What is a Yellow Tang?
The Yellow Tang is one of the most popular saltwater aquarium fish out there. They are a part of the surgeonfish family and are known by different names like “Yellow Hawaiian Tang”, “Yellow Surgeonfish” or “Yellow Sailfin”. In the wild they can be found in reef waters in the Pacific and Indian Oceans.
Yellow Tang prefer to live near coral reefs both for ease of access to food and an easy place to hide if they feel like they may be under attack. These little guys also have what is referred to as a white “scalpel” near their tail and they only use it when threatened. Fun fact? That little scalpel is also known as a “tang”!
We carry Yellow Tang in the shop and they are quite popular among our saltwater tank owners. If you have any questions or are considering adding a Yellow Tang to your reef tank, be sure to give us a call or stop by the store and chat with one of our crew members about compatibility and care!
